Rivanna River Museum
Rivanna River Museum
Fall 2010 | Studio 401
The Rivanna River bisects the city of Charlottesville as it travels South from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Unfortunately, the ecology of the Rivanna has been challenged by both pollution and neglect. The Rivanna River Museum's mission was to address these challenges and spark a feeling of environmental stewardship in the community. Acting as a gateway to the existing trail system, the museum will become a hub for outdoor recreation and education. Inspiration for the building's design came from the river itself. The museum's canopies evoke the image of water passing over rocks.
